Azamara has announced 85 new cruises for its 2028–2029 season, covering 210 ports in 81 countries across all four ships. Departures run from October 29, 2028, through May 19, 2029, with 94 overnight stays and more than 200 late-night departures designed to give travelers extra time ashore.

The biggest development is Azamara Onward's return to Africa and the Indian Ocean after several years away. Other itineraries bring Azamara Journey to the Mediterranean and nearby regions, Azamara Pursuit to Australia, New Zealand and Japan, and Azamara Quest from Europe toward the Caribbean before the line's 2029 World Cruise.

For cruisers deciding between regions, the announcement offers more than a list of ports: it identifies where the line is concentrating longer stays, unusual calls and seasonal experiences. Here is how the four ships' plans differ.

Azamara Onward Returns to Africa and the Indian Ocean

Azamara Onward's newly announced season visits 27 countries across South, East and West Africa and the Indian Ocean. One particularly unusual call is scheduled for Jamestown, Saint Helena, on December 12, 2028. The remote South Atlantic island is associated with Napoleon Bonaparte's exile and is a notable addition for travelers interested in less frequently visited destinations.

The ship's regional plans also include the Indian Ocean's Vanilla Islands: Seychelles, Mauritius, Réunion and Madagascar. These destinations provide a contrasting mix of island landscapes and cultures within the broader Africa-focused deployment. Azamara has not detailed the length or full port sequence of each Onward sailing in this announcement, so travelers should consult the individual itineraries when comparing routes.

Azamara Journey Explores the Mediterranean in a Different Season

Azamara Journey will sail through the Mediterranean, Iberia and the Canary Islands, with a program encompassing 16 countries and 65 ports. Rather than positioning the region solely as a summer destination, Azamara is highlighting opportunities to experience local life outside the busiest seasonal periods.

Certain itineraries feature three consecutive days in Alexandria, Egypt. That extended call gives guests more time to consider excursions involving Cairo or Luxor, including the Valley of the Kings, although specific excursion availability will depend on the sailing.

Other notable overnight stays include Marseille on Christmas Eve and Çanakkale, Turkey. The difference for travelers is time: an overnight can make an evening in port part of the experience instead of requiring a return to the ship before dinner.

Azamara Pursuit Adds the Kimberley Coast and Springtime Japan

Azamara Pursuit's Asia-Pacific season combines Australia and New Zealand with an extended focus on Japan. In Western Australia, the ship will explore the remote Kimberley Coast, with an overnight call at Broome. Another sailing from Sydney to Singapore incorporates several gateways to the Great Barrier Reef.

From late March through May 2029, Pursuit is scheduled to operate five consecutive Japan Intensive cruises. Azamara says the spring itineraries are designed to give travelers opportunities to experience cherry blossoms across multiple ports. Blossom timing naturally depends on the season's conditions, so the announcement should not be read as a guarantee of blooms on any particular date.

For those weighing a single-country trip against a broader regional voyage, Pursuit's schedule provides both styles: itineraries linking multiple Asia-Pacific destinations and a series focused more closely on Japan.

Azamara Quest Sails Toward the Caribbean Before the World Cruise

Azamara Quest has a shorter window within the newly announced program. From October 29, 2028, through January 1, 2029, it will offer Mediterranean, transatlantic and Caribbean voyages before transitioning to the 2029 World Cruise.

The sequence concludes with a Panama Canal holiday and New Year's sailing. Azamara did not provide a full day-by-day route for that voyage in the release, but its holiday timing and canal-focused itinerary may interest travelers considering a year-end cruise beyond the usual Caribbean circuit.

Why Overnight Stays Matter on These Cruises

Across the entire new season, Azamara lists 94 overnight stays and more than 200 late-night departures. These are especially relevant when comparing itineraries that might otherwise look similar on a port list. Additional hours in a destination can open up options for evening dining, cultural events or sightseeing at a less hurried pace.

An Alexandria stay lasting three consecutive days offers a different planning proposition from a brief call, just as a holiday overnight in Marseille changes the way guests can spend Christmas Eve. The actual time available will vary by departure, so it is worth reviewing arrival and departure times before choosing a cabin.

Early Booking Bonus and Longer Cruise Options

Azamara is advertising a 30% Early Booking Bonus for the new season across all stateroom categories. The company also points to combination cruises and Grand Voyages that connect selected itineraries into longer journeys, allowing guests to travel through more destinations without splitting the trip into separate bookings.

One important distinction: Azamara explicitly excludes Grand Voyages reservations from the Early Booking Bonus. The announcement does not spell out all promotional conditions, so passengers should check the terms for their selected itinerary before factoring the discount into a budget.

What to Know Before Choosing a 2028–2029 Sailing

The 85 new itineraries cover very different travel goals. Azamara Onward emphasizes Africa and the Indian Ocean, Journey offers deeper access to Mediterranean cities, Pursuit features the Kimberley Coast and springtime Japan, and Quest connects European voyages with an Atlantic crossing, the Caribbean and a Panama Canal holiday sailing.

Travelers can start by selecting the region and dates that matter most, then compare the exact overnight stops, late departures and available combination options. Azamara's announced 2028–2029 season spans October 29, 2028, to May 19, 2029, giving guests time to evaluate both individual voyages and longer journeys.
