American Cruise Lines has officially christened American Ranger, its newest Patriot Class small ship, during the vessel’s inaugural Hudson River cruise. The September 24 ceremony at Historic Catskill Point in Catskill, New York, marked another fleet expansion milestone for the domestic cruise line and introduced travelers to a ship designed specifically for small-ship cruising in the United States.

American Ranger is the third new ship American Cruise Lines has launched in 2026 and the fourth vessel in its Patriot Class. The ship accommodates just 130 guests, giving cruisers another small-ship option for exploring American waterways and destinations that are very different from the ports typically associated with large oceangoing cruise ships.

American Ranger Joins the Patriot Class Fleet

The christening took place while American Ranger was docked along the Hudson River during its inaugural voyage. Guests sailing aboard the ship joined company executives and crew members for a top-deck celebration that included a cookout and the traditional ceremonial bottle smash.

Susan Renner, American Cruise Lines’ longtime Treasurer and Board Chair, served as godmother. Renner is also godmother of American Maverick, a sister ship that was christened earlier in 2026 in Newport, Rhode Island.

American Cruise Lines President and CEO Charles B. Robertson said the company was pleased to celebrate the new vessel with guests and crew amid the Hudson River Valley’s fall scenery. The cruise line also indicated that its current fleet expansion will continue in 2027.

What Cruisers Will Find Aboard American Ranger

American Ranger has four decks and carries 130 guests. Every stateroom includes a private balcony, and accommodations include both single-occupancy rooms and suites.

Despite its relatively small passenger capacity, the ship includes several public spaces and onboard facilities. Features announced by American Cruise Lines include:

  • A top-deck lounge and walking track
  • A chart room
  • A main restaurant
  • A casual café
  • A fitness center
  • A laundry room

The combination of private balconies and multiple shared spaces gives travelers several options for enjoying the scenery while sailing waterways such as the Hudson River.

American Ranger Debuts During Hudson River Fall Foliage Season

The christening occurred during American Ranger’s inaugural 9-Day Hudson River Fall Foliage itinerary. The trip began with an included New York City hotel stay on September 18, followed by the ship’s departure from the city on September 19. The cruise finished in Albany on September 26.

American Cruise Lines says its Hudson River Fall Foliage and Summer Classic sailings are the only overnight river cruises currently exploring the Hudson River.

For 2026, the company’s Hudson River cruises operate between New York City and Albany, with calls at Catskill, West Point, Sleepy Hollow, and Kingston/Hyde Park. Guided excursions throughout the region are also included in the itineraries.

Availability for the remainder of the 2026 season is limited. According to American Cruise Lines, its 2026 Hudson River cruises are largely sold out, with the final sailing of the year scheduled to begin October 25.

Hudson River Cruises Change in 2027

Travelers considering a Hudson River cruise next year will see a notable itinerary change. In 2027, American Cruise Lines plans to operate its Hudson River sailings roundtrip from Albany rather than between Albany and New York City.

New York City will remain part of the experience, with a stop and excursions planned there. The cruise line says the itinerary will also provide an opportunity for guests to see the city skyline while sailing past the Statue of Liberty.

The 2027 Hudson River Summer Classic season is scheduled to begin in June, while Fall Foliage cruises return in September.

Historic Sites and Seasonal Experiences Along the Hudson

The Hudson River itineraries combine scenic cruising with visits to historic and cultural attractions throughout New York’s Hudson Valley. American Cruise Lines highlights opportunities for guests to visit places including West Point, the Vanderbilt Mansion, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Presidential Library, Olana, Lyndhurst, and Whitecliff Vineyard.

Fall departures add seasonal experiences to the itinerary. Guests can participate in apple tastings and visit Sleepy Hollow during its Halloween celebrations, which run from mid-September into early November.

For cruisers who enjoy destination-focused trips, American Ranger’s debut is significant because the ship adds another purpose-built small vessel to American Cruise Lines’ domestic fleet while immediately entering service on one of the company’s most distinctive seasonal routes.

More New American Cruise Lines Ships Are Coming

American Ranger will not remain the company’s newest ship for long. American Cruise Lines says three additional vessels are planned for 2027.

Two more Patriot Class sister ships, American Mariner and American Navigator, are scheduled to join the fleet. The company also plans to introduce another modern American Riverboat, American Anthem.

For travelers interested in U.S.-based small-ship cruising, the continued expansion means American Cruise Lines is adding both new vessels and additional capacity while maintaining its focus on domestic rivers, lakes, and protected waterways.
