Atlas Adds Pre-Cruise African Safaris for Atlas Adventurer

Atlas Ocean Voyages is extending several of its 2029 African expeditions well beyond the ship with seven new pre-voyage land programs created for guests sailing aboard Atlas Adventurer.

The collection combines select spring 2029 voyages from Mombasa and Cape Town with experiences in Kenya, South Africa and Botswana. Travelers can choose everything from a four-day introduction to Amboseli and Tsavo East to an eight-day luxury safari across private Kenyan reserves, with prices beginning at $3,429 per person based on double occupancy.

Atlas is positioning the programs as a way for travelers to begin their expedition before boarding the yacht, pairing African wildlife, landscapes and wine regions with voyages aboard Atlas Adventurer.

Three Kenya Safari Options Connect With Mombasa

Atlas has developed three Kenya programs for guests connecting with select voyages from Mombasa.

The shortest is the four-day, three-night Amboseli & Tsavo East Safari, priced from $3,679 per person based on double occupancy.

Guests spend two nights at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge followed by a night at Ashnil Aruba Lodge in Tsavo East National Park. The itinerary includes opportunities to track big-tusked elephants beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, explore Amboseli’s marshes and dried lake beds by open 4×4 and travel through Tsavo East before transferring to Mombasa for embarkation.

Atlas Partners With Abercrombie & Kent in Kenya

One of the Kenya options was developed with luxury safari operator Abercrombie & Kent.

The six-day, five-night A&K Sanctuary Experience starts at $12,509 per person based on double occupancy. It begins with an overnight at the JW Marriott in Nairobi before continuing to Sanctuary Kitirua Lodge, a private conservancy retreat bordering Amboseli National Park with views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

The program then moves to Sanctuary Olonana along the Mara River in the Masai Mara. Guests participate in twice-daily game drives in search of the Big Five before taking an internal flight to Mombasa to join Atlas Adventurer.

Eight-Day Luxury Safari Visits Three Private Reserves

Atlas’ most exclusive Kenya option is the eight-day, seven-night Luxury Signature Safari, priced from $26,969 per person based on double occupancy.

The journey visits three private reserve experiences: Sanctuary Kitirua in Amboseli, &Beyond Suyian Lodge in Laikipia and The Ritz-Carlton’s safari camp on the Sand River in the Masai Mara.

Guests receive exclusive-use 4×4 vehicles and travel with a dedicated resident tour director. The program concludes with a transfer to Mombasa before guests board Atlas Adventurer.

Atlas President and CEO James A. Rodriguez said the goal of the new programs is to extend the expedition experience onto land, allowing guests to encounter Africa’s wildlife and landscapes before beginning their voyage.

Cape Winelands Program Combines Wine and Table Mountain

Travelers joining Atlas Adventurer in Cape Town can choose among four additional programs showcasing southern Africa.

The four-day, three-night Cape Winelands Discovery is the least expensive of the seven options, starting at $3,429 per person based on double occupancy.

Guests stay at Le Quartier Français in Franschhoek and take a guided Winelands tour through Paarl and Stellenbosch. Tastings are planned at Nederburg, Fairview and Tokara, along with a Wine Tram experience through the Franschhoek valley.

The itinerary concludes with a cable-car trip up Table Mountain before a private transfer to the Cape Town cruise terminal.

Two Programs Explore the Kruger Region

Atlas is offering two different safari options centered on Kruger National Park and surrounding wildlife areas.

The four-day, three-night Kruger Safari & Lion Sands Game Reserve starts at $8,389 per person. After an overnight in Johannesburg, guests fly to Skukuza and continue to Lion Sands Narina Lodge.

The lodge features stilted suites with private plunge pools overlooking the Sabie River. The surrounding Lion Sands area spans Sabi Sand and Kruger National Park and is highlighted by Atlas for leopard sightings and year-round wildlife viewing.

A second option, the five-day, four-night Northern Kruger Safari — Ngala Safari Lodge, starts at $8,469 per person.

Guests stay at &Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge within a private concession in Kruger National Park. The program includes twice-daily game drives in search of the Big Five, guided nature walks and optional rhino conservation experiences before travelers return to Cape Town for embarkation.

Botswana Safari Adds the Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls

The longest program connected with Cape Town is a seven-day, six-night Botswana Safari — Okavango Delta & Chobe, priced from $17,379 per person based on double occupancy.

The journey travels from Johannesburg into Botswana, beginning at Chief’s Camp on Chief’s Island in the Okavango Delta’s Moremi Game Reserve.

Guests then continue to Chobe Chilwero overlooking the Chobe River. The program finishes with an overnight at the Victoria Falls Hotel and a guided visit to Victoria Falls before guests fly back to Cape Town to board Atlas Adventurer.

Four Atlas Adventurer Voyages Qualify

The seven land programs are available exclusively in connection with select Atlas Adventurer voyages during spring 2029.

Eligible cruises include the March 24, 2029, 14-night voyage from Mombasa to Cape Town and the April 7, 2029, 14-night sailing from Cape Town to Mombasa.

The programs are also offered with Atlas Adventurer’s April 7, 2029, 45-night Extraordinary Expedition from Cape Town to Athens and the April 21, 2029, 10-night voyage from Mombasa to Mahé.

Single-occupancy pricing and complete day-by-day details for the land programs were not included in the announcement.

Atlas Is Turning the Pre-Cruise Stay Into Part of the Expedition

The new collection gives Atlas Adventurer guests several very different ways to extend a voyage, with land programs ranging from three nights to seven nights and from wine-focused touring to high-end private safari experiences.

The breadth of pricing is equally significant. Published double-occupancy rates begin at $3,429 per person for the Cape Winelands program and reach $26,969 per person for the Luxury Signature Safari in Kenya.

For travelers already considering one of the four qualifying Atlas Adventurer sailings, the programs turn the days before embarkation into a substantial part of the overall journey, with options to experience the Masai Mara, Amboseli, Kruger, the Okavango Delta, Chobe, Victoria Falls or South Africa’s wine country before ever stepping aboard the yacht.
