MSC World Asia has successfully completed its final sea trials, clearing another major milestone before MSC Cruises takes delivery of its newest flagship on November 25, 2026.

The ship underwent its latest round of testing in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of France, where teams evaluated its engines, maneuverability, fuel efficiency, safety systems, speed and stopping distances. With those trials complete, MSC World Asia will return to the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, for final finishing work before delivery.

Guests will not have to wait long after that. MSC World Asia is scheduled to be officially named in Le Havre, France, on November 28 before departing Barcelona on December 4 for its inaugural seven-night Mediterranean cruise.

MSC World Asia Passes Its Final Sea Trials

Sea trials are one of the final major steps in bringing a new cruise ship into service. MSC World Asia completed its first sea trials in July, followed by the final round of testing in September.

During the latest trials, the ship was put through a series of operational tests designed to confirm its readiness. MSC specifically evaluated the vessel's engines, maneuverability, fuel efficiency, safety systems, speed and stopping distances.

With those tests completed, the focus now shifts back to the shipyard. Chantiers de l'Atlantique will complete the finishing touches before MSC World Asia is formally delivered to MSC Cruises on November 25.

Naming Ceremony Set for November 28 in Le Havre

Just three days after delivery, MSC World Asia will be officially named in Le Havre, France.

The November 28 ceremony will bring together representatives from the global travel industry, international media, partners and invited guests. MSC says the event will combine traditional maritime elements with a contemporary celebration.

The naming will set the stage for the ship's first passenger voyage less than a week later.

First Cruise Departs Barcelona on December 4

MSC World Asia's inaugural seven-night Mediterranean sailing will depart Barcelona on December 4, 2026.

The ship will operate seven-night itineraries visiting Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia for Rome, Messina and Valletta. MSC says embarkation will be available at every port on the itinerary, providing travelers with multiple options for where to begin their cruise.

The year-round Mediterranean format gives guests a consistent seven-night itinerary while connecting several major destinations in Spain, France, Italy and Malta.

MSC World Asia Will Have More Than 40 Dining and Drinking Venues

Once onboard, guests will have more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges to choose from, along with international entertainment and family facilities.

The ship is the third vessel in MSC Cruises' World Class series and will become the cruise line's 24th ship. MSC World Asia will also be the third LNG-powered ship in the World Class lineup.

MSC describes each World Class ship as a destination in itself, combining a large collection of onboard experiences with design elements unique to the individual vessel.

The Spiral Will Be the Longest Dry Slide at Sea

One of MSC World Asia's most prominent attractions will be The Spiral @ Tree of Life, which MSC says will be the longest dry slide at sea.

The slide measures 81.3 meters and descends 12 decks, combining a thrill attraction with ocean views as guests make their way down the ship.

The attraction is one of several ways MSC World Asia will differentiate itself from earlier World Class ships while maintaining the overall platform's focus on dining, entertainment and family experiences.

Asian-Inspired Design Appears Throughout the Ship

MSC World Asia's identity will also be reflected in design details inspired by the culture, art and landscapes of Asia.

One of the most visible examples will be a dragon sculpture in the World Promenade. The sculpture will be suspended 10 meters above the space, creating a prominent centerpiece within one of the ship's main public areas.

MSC describes the Asian influences as subtle design elements rather than an attempt to theme the entire ship around a single region.

MSC World Asia Uses LNG and Has Shore Power Connectivity

MSC World Asia will operate using liquefied natural gas and is also designed to be capable of running on bio and synthetic renewable LNG fuels.

The ship is equipped with shore power connectivity, allowing its engines to be switched off when connected to compatible electrical infrastructure in port. According to MSC, this eliminates local emissions from the ship's engines while it is connected and helps improve local air quality.

MSC describes World Asia as one of the most efficient cruise ships currently at sea.

What's Next for MSC World Asia?

With sea trials finished, MSC World Asia has only a short list of major milestones remaining before guests arrive. The ship will receive its final finishing work at Chantiers de l'Atlantique, be delivered to MSC Cruises on November 25 and officially named in Le Havre on November 28.

Then, on December 4, MSC World Asia will begin its first seven-night Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona.

For travelers waiting to sail MSC's newest World Class ship, the completion of final sea trials is an important sign that the project has moved beyond major construction and testing and into the final preparations for service.
