Silversea has begun one of its most ambitious expedition voyages of 2026, sending Silver Cloud on a 77-day journey across the South Pacific from Fremantle, Western Australia, to Valparaiso, Chile.
The Grand South Pacific Expedition 2026 visits 57 destinations in 11 countries, linking Australia’s remote Kimberley coast with Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, the Cook Islands, French Polynesia, Pitcairn Island and Chile. Silver Cloud is scheduled to reach Valparaiso on November 4, 2026.
For expedition cruisers, the scale of the voyage is the story: rather than experiencing these remote regions as separate trips, guests travel continuously from Western Australia across the Pacific to destinations including Raja Ampat, Bora Bora, the Marquesas, Pitcairn and Easter Island.
The Journey Begins Along Western Australia and the Kimberley
Silver Cloud begins by following the Western Australian coast from Fremantle toward Darwin. Stops include the Abrolhos Islands, Cape Peron at Shark Bay, North Muiron Island, the Montebello Islands and Dampier Archipelago before the ship enters the Kimberley.
Within the Kimberley, the itinerary includes Adele Island, Buccaneer Archipelago, the Hunter River region, Ashmore Reef, Swift Bay and King George River.
Expedition experiences include opportunities to explore Montgomery Reef’s marine environment and go ashore at Swift Bay to see ancient Gwion Gwion rock art galleries.
Silver Cloud Continues Through Indonesia and the South Pacific
From Darwin, Silver Cloud begins a 21-destination passage through six countries before reaching Lautoka, Fiji.
The route includes Indonesia’s Raja Ampat region and Cenderawasih Bay before continuing to Vanimo, Madang and Rabaul in Papua New Guinea. The ship then visits Santa Ana in the Solomon Islands and Ambrym Island in Vanuatu before arriving in Fiji.
Silversea highlights several cultural experiences along this portion of the expedition. In Kokas, Indonesia, guests can explore limestone cliffs while searching for ancient rock art. On Ambrym, travelers can witness traditional Rom dancers performing a masked tradition passed down through generations.
Fiji, Tonga and the Cook Islands Lead to French Polynesia
The next stage takes Silver Cloud from Lautoka to Papeete, Tahiti, visiting 14 destinations across four countries.
The itinerary includes Taveuni and the Ringgold Isles in Fiji, the Vava’u Group in Tonga, and Rarotonga and Aitutaki in the Cook Islands. Silver Cloud then continues into French Polynesia, visiting Bora Bora and Rangiroa before reaching Papeete.
Expedition activities include snorkeling among reefs near Euaiki Island in Tonga. In Bora Bora, guests can swim in the lagoon alongside blacktip reef sharks and stingrays.
The Final Leg Reaches Pitcairn and Easter Island
From Papeete, the expedition turns toward some of the most remote destinations of the entire journey. The final section covers 12 destinations across three countries before Silver Cloud reaches Valparaiso.
In French Polynesia, the ship visits the Marquesas Islands of Hiva Oa, Nuku Hiva and Fatu Hiva, along with Mangareva. Guests can explore Fatu Hiva’s Bay of Virgins by Zodiac beneath its volcanic pinnacles.
Silver Cloud then calls at Adamstown on Pitcairn Island, where guests can meet descendants of the HMS Bounty mutineers in one of the world’s most remote inhabited settlements.
The voyage continues to Easter Island and Robinson Crusoe Island in Chile before concluding in Valparaiso.
Two Exclusive Events Are Included
Silversea has planned two special events specifically for guests on the Grand South Pacific Expedition.
On September 6, guests will visit Finniss River Lodge in Australia’s Northern Territory. The 50,000-acre working cattle station experience includes an all-wheel-drive exploration through paperbark groves, a helicopter flight over wetlands, escarpments and the Finniss River, and a luncheon featuring regional seasonal food.
A second event takes place October 26 at Toki Rapa Nui on Easter Island. The cultural center was founded to preserve Rapa Nui heritage. Guests will attend a concert by pianist Mahani Teave, founder of the Toki Music School, visit the moai at Tahai and see a traditional hoko warrior dance performance.
Expedition Experts Guide the 77-Day Journey
Silversea’s Expedition Experts accompany guests throughout the voyage. The team is selected according to the requirements of the regions being visited and includes certified Zodiac drivers, historians, naturalists and scientists.
The expedition team can adjust activities based on conditions including weather, wildlife and terrain. Daily briefings and evening recaps provide additional context for the destinations and experiences encountered throughout the voyage.
Silver Cloud Closes Another Kimberley Season
Silver Cloud’s departure also marks the conclusion of Silversea’s 2026 Kimberley expedition season. The season included 10 voyages between May 8 and September 6, covering 25 destinations along Australia’s northwest coast.
Highlights included Zodiac cruising around King George Falls, Montgomery Reef, Horizontal Falls and the Hunter River region, while Raft Point returned to Silversea’s itinerary after an extended absence.
Wildlife sightings during the season included saltwater crocodiles, Australian snubfin dolphins, turtles, seabirds, tiger sharks and bottlenose dolphins. Cultural calls included Freshwater Cove, Swift Bay and Jar Island, with Welcome to Country ceremonies and Indigenous rock art experiences.
With Silver Cloud now crossing the South Pacific, Silversea is carrying that expedition format far beyond the Kimberley. Over 77 days, guests will move from remote Australian waterways to Pacific islands and eventually South America, combining wildlife, cultural encounters and Zodiac exploration in one continuous journey.
