Royal Caribbean's next Icon Class ship is officially in the water. Hero of the Seas has floated for the first time at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, marking a major construction milestone ahead of the ship's planned August 2027 debut in Miami.

The float out moves Hero of the Seas into the next phase of construction, when work will continue at the outfitting pier over the coming year. Once complete, the ship will begin seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami, with every sailing scheduled to visit Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.

More Than 90 Million Gallons of Water Filled the Dry Dock

Hero of the Seas reached the milestone after the ship's dry dock was filled with more than 90 million gallons of water overnight.

The occasion also included the ceremonial firing of a cannon, following a maritime tradition associated with the milestone. Hero then moved from the dry dock to the outfitting pier, where the ship will continue taking shape ahead of its 2027 debut.

For cruise travelers following a new ship from construction to its first sailing, the float out is one of the most visible milestones. Hero is now afloat, but substantial work remains before passengers step onboard in Miami.

Hero of the Seas Will Have Eight Neighborhoods

Hero of the Seas will become the next ship in Royal Caribbean's Icon Class, combining several experiences associated with the class with new additions of its own.

The ship will be organized around eight neighborhoods and feature nine pools and 28 dining venues. Royal Caribbean is positioning the ship as a family-focused vacation experience with options ranging from high-energy attractions to adults-only spaces.

One of the new dining concepts will be Orleans Parrish Supper Club. Royal Caribbean did not provide additional menu or experience details for the restaurant in this announcement.

Ultimate Family Treehouse Spans Three Decks

Families looking for a particularly large accommodation will have the Ultimate Family Treehouse, a three-deck option designed as one of Hero's distinctive places to stay.

The announcement does not provide additional details about the accommodation, but Royal Caribbean highlights it as part of the range of options available aboard the ship.

The focus on family accommodations fits into Royal Caribbean's broader positioning of Hero of the Seas as a vacation designed for different generations and types of travelers to experience together.

Crown's Edge Takes Guests 154 Feet Above the Ocean

For travelers looking for a thrill, Hero of the Seas will feature Crown's Edge. Royal Caribbean describes the attraction as part skywalk and part zip line experience, positioned 154 feet above the ocean.

Guests who prefer spending their time by the water will have several alternatives among the ship's nine pools. Those include the new Coconut Cove pool, while adults looking for a separate retreat can head to the adults-only The Hideaway.

With 28 dining venues, multiple bars and entertainment also planned, Royal Caribbean is building the ship around the idea that families can choose different experiences throughout the day while vacationing together.

Hero of the Seas Will Sail From Miami

Hero of the Seas is scheduled to debut in Miami in August 2027. Once service begins, the ship will offer seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.

Every Hero of the Seas cruise included in the announcement will visit Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's private destination in The Bahamas.

The combination gives travelers a consistent seven-night cruise length while providing a choice between Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.

What Happens Next for Hero of the Seas?

With the float out complete, Hero of the Seas has moved to the outfitting pier at Meyer Turku. Royal Caribbean says construction will continue there over the next year as the ship moves closer to completion.

The milestone is significant, but it does not mean the ship is finished. Interior spaces, accommodations, restaurants, entertainment areas and other elements will continue to take shape before Hero welcomes its first guests.

For cruisers considering the new ship, the float out provides another sign that Hero of the Seas is progressing toward its August 2027 debut. The ship's first season will bring Royal Caribbean's newest Icon Class experience to Miami, with weeklong Caribbean vacations combining new onboard features with a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay on every sailing.
