Carnival Cruise Line guests are helping families facing some of their most difficult moments by supporting a new accommodation program for families of children receiving hospital care in Sydney. Donations raised through Carnival’s Conga for Kids deck parties have funded a dedicated one-bedroom apartment for families who need to stay close to the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
The support is part of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Patient Family Accommodation Program, which provides families with free access to apartments at the new Scape Lachlan Building in Kensington, just minutes from Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick.
For families traveling from Sydney’s outer suburbs or regional New South Wales, having a place to stay near the hospital can help reduce the burden of long commutes, accommodation costs and time spent away from their children.
Carnival Guests Are Funding a Dedicated Apartment
The Carnival connection comes through Conga for Kids, a deck party held on every Carnival cruise from Sydney. Donations raised through those events have funded a dedicated one-bedroom apartment within the Patient Family Accommodation Program.
The apartment is designed to give families more than simply a place to sleep while their child is receiving hospital care. Families staying there have access to workspaces, outdoor areas, a pool and laundry facilities, along with a 24/7 concierge.
That can make a significant practical difference for parents and other family members who may need to balance hospital visits with work and everyday responsibilities during an extended or unexpected hospital stay.
Why the Accommodation Program Matters
For families who live farther from Sydney Children’s Hospital, a child’s hospitalization can create a difficult combination of travel, expense and separation. A long commute can add another challenge to an already stressful situation, while paying for overnight accommodation near the hospital can quickly become an additional financial burden.
The Patient Family Accommodation Program is intended to help address those challenges by giving eligible families free accommodation close to the hospital. Carnival guests are contributing directly to that effort through fundraising connected to cruises departing from Sydney.

Conga for Kids Continues Across Carnival Cruises
Carnival hosts the Conga for Kids party on every voyage in Australia. The fundraising effort gives guests an opportunity to contribute while enjoying an onboard event during their cruise.
There is also another way for Carnival guests to support the effort. A $20 Conga for Kids T-shirt is available for purchase on all Carnival cruises departing from Sydney and Brisbane.
Purchases of the shirts support the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation as well as the Queensland Children’s Hospital Foundation, extending the fundraising effort to children’s healthcare organizations in both New South Wales and Queensland.
A Cruise Fundraiser With an Impact Beyond the Ship
